Volunteer

Our Volunteers: Enriching Lives with Service!

Our trained volunteers provide a number of important services. Volunteers offer direct patient support, companionship and practical, caring help. Volunteers often assist the primary caregivers by sitting with the patient to provide the caregivers respite from the often overwhelming task of providing around the clock care for a loved one. Volunteers also may assist us with clerical and
administrative tasks in our office.

How do Home Hospice volunteers help?

A Home Hospice volunteer provides many and varied services to patients and their families...
•  A Home Hospice volunteer provides caregiver relief so that caregivers can run an errand, shop, go to an appointment, rest, take a walk or spend time with another family member.
•  A Home Hospice volunteer helps with practical tasks such as shopping, running errands or assisting in the home
•  A Home Hospice volunteer provides helpful services that may include reading a book or newspaper, making a phone call or writing a letter for the patient.
•  A Home Hospice volunteer provides caring companionship, just talking and listening with a patient.
•  A Home Hospice volunteer provides emotional support by lending an ear, holding a hand or by just being a calm presence for the patient and family.

Please Note: Home Hospice volunteers do not dispense medications or provide any medical or nursing treatments.

How do Home Hospice volunteers know what to do?

Hospice and palliative Care of Northern Colorado, Inc. provides a comprehensive training program to all volunteers. Before volunteering, all prospective volunteers must submit an application, undergo a interview, background check, drug screening and TB test. Volunteers are training in the hospice philosophy, medical privacy laws, and sign a confidentiality agreement. During training, volunteers are educated by our hospice care teams on how to interact with patients, and listening skills.
