Volunteers offer direct patient support, companionship and practical, caring help. Volunteers often assist the primary caregivers by sitting with the patient to provide the caregivers respite from the often overwhelming task of providing around the clock care for a loved one. Please Note: Home Hospice volunteers do not dispense medications or provide any medical or nursing treatments. How do Home Hospice volunteers know what to do? Hospice and palliative Care of Northern Colorado, Inc. provides a comprehensive training program to all volunteers. Before volunteering, all prospective volunteers must submit an application, undergo a interview, background check, drug screening and TB test. Volunteers are training in the hospice philosophy, medical privacy laws, and sign a confidentiality agreement. During training, volunteers are educated by our hospice care teams on how to interact with patients, and listening skills. Who do I call if I want to volunteer?
